Live-in Dementia Care
What is live-in dementia care?
Live-in dementia care is where a dedicated care professional lives with your loved one in their own home.
Our care professionals prioritise the wellbeing and health of the person receiving care, offering support with daily tasks. Consistency and continuity are beneficial for people living with dementia, and remaining at home helps to reduce the confusion that people living with dementia may experience in new surroundings.
Having a care professional living alongside a person with dementia supports consistency in care, routines and relationships, fostering a sense of companionship and easing feelings of isolation.
Families also stay closely involved in the live-in care process. You can remain fully connected to your loved one, knowing that professional support is available.

What is dementia?
Dementia is a syndrome, a group of related symptoms associated with an ongoing decline in brain function. There are many causes and types of dementia.
People often ask about the difference between Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia and, together with vascular dementia, makes up the majority of dementia cases diagnosed in the UK.
Symptoms of dementia
Symptoms of dementia may include problems with:
- Memory loss
- Thinking speed
- Mental sharpness
- Speaking and language
- Understanding
- Mood
- Movement
- Carrying out daily activities
How common is dementia in the UK?
Research conducted by the NHS shows there are more than 944,000 people in the UK living with dementia. 1 in 11 people over the age of 65 in the UK have dementia.
What is young-onset dementia?
When a person experiences dementia before turning 65, it is called 'young-onset dementia'. In the UK, over 70,800 people have this condition. As with dementia at later stages of life, younger people may experience a range of symptoms, particularly during the initial phases.
Is live-in care suitable for a person with dementia?
Receiving care in the comfort of home can improve overall health and wellbeing for a person living with dementia. Moving at any stage of life can be disruptive and stressful, but when someone is living with dementia, moving to a care home can be even more emotionally destabilising.
Our team offers one-to-one care from a dedicated live-in care professional. We support with personal care, meal preparation, domestic support, medication support and wellbeing checks as well as true companionship.
We also provide specialist live-in care for people living with young-onset dementia. Respite care is another option for short-term care if you're a partner or child caring for someone with dementia and need a break.

The benefits of live-in care for dementia patients:
Live-in care can address many of the specific concerns families face when a loved one is living with dementia, from changes in behaviour and daily routines to nutrition, mobility, companionship and more.
Reassurance during confusion and distress
Changes in behaviour, confusion and moments of distress can be unsettling for the whole family. A familiar care professional who understands your loved one can offer calm, consistent reassurance and respond to their needs with patience.
Familiar surroundings
Remaining at home, surrounded by familiar things, can help reduce the confusion that a new environment may bring, offering comfort and a sense of security.
Safety, mobility and reducing risks
Having a care professional living in the home can help reduce risks and provide reassurance, mobility support and assistance when needed, day and night.
Personal care and dignity
Support with washing, dressing and personal care is delivered discreetly and respectfully, always protecting your loved one's dignity and independence.
Medication support
Our care professionals are trained in medication support. We help ensure your loved one has the medication they need, and we can collect prescriptions from the pharmacy.
Companionship and meaningful activities
Live-in care professionals offer companionship and support with activities your loved one enjoys, helping to ease the loneliness and isolation people living with dementia can experience.
Attending appointments and maintaining relationships
Care professionals can support your loved one to attend appointments and stay connected with family and friends, helping maintain the relationships that matter most.
Nutrition and hydration
Meals are planned and prepared around your loved one's preferences and nutritional needs, with gentle encouragement to eat and drink well throughout the day.

How much does live-in dementia care cost?
The cost of live-in care for someone living with dementia is in line with — and sometimes less than — a residential care home. The total cost depends on a number of factors, such as location and the type of care required, with our pricing starting from £1490 per week.
Your loved one may be eligible for the local council to pay towards the cost of care if they have savings below the capital threshold.
The first step is for the council to assess how much support your loved one needs. This is called a 'needs assessment'. The needs assessment is free and anyone can ask for one. Find out more about getting a needs assessment.
If your loved one requires care, the council will then carry out a financial assessment to work out what they will need to contribute towards the cost of their care.
