Friday 6th October is World Smile Day.
World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday of October every year. This year, it is being celebrated on Friday 6th October.
The day was created by commercial artist Harvey Ball, from Worcester, Massachusetts, as a response to his creation of the smiley face. Harvey made the Smiley Face that we all know today in the year 1963. The first World Smile Day was celebrated in 1999.
Harvey thought that everyone should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world. After Harvey died in 2001, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation was created to honour his name and memory.
